Baked Beans

This is the second installment of recipes that are not really recipes.  I have many recipes for baked beans with all kinds of ingredients.  This seems to be the one that we always go to.  My family loves the flavor and I love the simplicity of it.  I can throw it together in 5 minutes.  I have had so many people ask me how I make my beans and again, I hate to tell the.  This reminds me of he time Dad entered a barbeue contest at the Morgan County Fair. He made BBQ ribs using a bottle of Kraft BBQ sauce.  He won!!  There was no problem until the paper called and asked to publish the recipe.  He took the ingredients from the back of the bottle and tried to figure out how much of each and sent it in.  Maybe others just thought they were not as good a cook as DAD.  This was announced at his funeral!!!

So here is the big secret

 1/4 cup brown sugar

a handful of dried onions

about 1/8 cup of mustard

cut up 5-6 slices of bacon

cook at 350 for about 45 minutes.  I like it pretty browned on top

You don’t need to be Martha Stewart for this one!!!!

Homestir Ice Cream

Today’s post is dedicated to things that look like you spent time making them but you really didn’t.  That’s my idea of a good recipe ( or should I say not recipe–I’m confused).  The first is homestir ice cream.  This has been a staple in our home for years and has been served at many a family function.  My kids love this and I have been asked for the recipe so many times.  I almost hate to give it out because it is so easy.  So make it and say it is a family secret.

1/2 gallon pineapple sherbet

1/2 gallon vanilla icecream

4 banannas diced

2 large containers frozen strawberries ( sweetened in syrup)

minature marshmellows ( as many as you like)

I saw this quote the other day and it really hit home. I think that it is a testament that we never really seem to be happy with who we are..  I can remember feeling as if I was so fat in high school.  Now I would give anything to be that weight again.  I bought this so I could remember that where I am at today may be the place that I wish that I were  years from now.

…plus this looks just like my mom

Introducing Dr. Hill

Well the big day finally arrived. Kallie graduated!!!  I can’t believe this long journey is over and that she did it.  It has been 8 long years and so much hard work on her part.  Kallie decided her senior year that she wanted to be a pharmacist and she worked hard to get there. What an amazing accomplishment to first of all be accepted into one of the top ten pharmacy programs in the country and on her first try and then to complete 8 years with an A average!!  She studied so hard and sacraficed so much in those eight years to get where she is.  We are so proud of her.  I attended a banquet the week of graduation with her, where she was honored for a program she had developed for Smiths Marketplace.

Then on graduation day, Dave, Jace, Jordan, Grandma  Hill and I  watched her walk across the stage and recieve her diploma and take the pharmacists oath. I was not prepared for the emotion when I heard the processional march and saw her in her robes with the stripes of the doctorate degree walk into the room.  A very proud moment.

We celebrated by going out to dinner at the Purple Grape and then Kallie was off to test drive her new car!!!!!
