You know those family members that you can never think of something new and exciting to get them for Christmas? Those that are so talented that you hate making them something. Those that are great cooks, so you don’t want to bake them anything. Well I have two sister in laws that fit that description. Every year I stew over what I can get them that they will really like, and I feel that I usually fall short on my attempts. Well this year we were up at the Cabin at Bear Lake for Thanksgiving and Heidi was thumbing though a magazine and ran across a picture of a “Gingerbread City in a Jar” She loved it and I silently said “YES!!!!!!” and did a imaginary hand pump. Is that what it’s called? Anyway I as thrilled and as soon as I got home, I started the search.. I luckily remembered the name of the magazine and with a little google search was able to find the directions. These were so easy and really kind of fun to make. The directions are easy to follow. I used some jars I found at Hobby Lobby and with their 50% off sale, they cost $2.99.
I thought they turned out so cute. Of course Jace and Dave has some snarky comments about the purpose of placing cookies in a jar that you would not eat. The whole experience totally missed the target for them. One of the younger kids, when seeing it, asked if it was kind of like a ship in a bottle!!!!. Any way if you are into things that take patience, time and are of little use, you will love these.
